WESTON, W.Va. — After dropping its first five games of the season, Preston High got a shot to redeem itself at Lewis County Friday night. And redeem themselves they did, as the Knights (1-5) hit the road back to Kingwood with a 20-12 win under their belts. And it was over a top-10 team, nonetheless.
Preston was originally scheduled to play the No. 9 Minutemen (3-3) two weeks ago, but after disciplinary action was deemed necessary by the County Board of Education following an event at the Robert C. Byrd game in Week 3 the Knights were forced to forfeit. That marked the second forfeit going in favor for Lewis County in those first few weeks after Braxton County forfeited the season opener. Lewis County’s only other win was a 29-13 road victory over Ripley in Week 2.
The Knights are scheduled to return to action on Friday, hitting the road to face Washington in Charles Town at 7 p.m. The Patriots (3-3) are coming off a major 20-19 upset over Class AA’s No. 2 Frankfort (5-1) at home on Friday.
