MFD responds to fire near rail-trail

Newsroom@DominionPost.com

A tractor-trailer stored near Surplus City off the rail-trail caught on fire Thursday morning.

An employee was bringing a shipment of flooring inside about 10:30 a.m. when he spotted the black smoke, manager Ruth Miller said.

They called 911 and the Morgantown Fire Department responded.

The trailer belongs to a friend of the boss, Miller said.

She said homeless people live in that trailer and have cut locks off it before. There were several tires piled up near the entrance to the trailer.

Miller said they’ve called law enforcement on those  attempting to occupy the tractor-trailer before, and no matter how many times they are run off they come back.

The City of Morgantown did not respond in time for this report.
