Lace up the sneakers and get decked out for Halloween.

Registration is open for the Spooky Sprint Virtual 5K Run/Walk, which will happen the final week of October. The event, which is sponsored by WVU Medicine, raises money for the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties’ 2021 Campaign.

The United Way’s affinity group, Emerging Leaders, is organizing the run/walk, which has a Halloween theme and will be completely virtual because of the pandemic.

While the event will take place the last week of October, participants must register for the run/walk by Oct. 10 at igfn.us/form/JWPOBw.

Once participants  register, they will receive a race participation packet in the mail, which includes a Spooky Sprint T-shirt, race bib and medal. Participants have until midnight Oct. 31 to run or walk 3.1 miles. To be considered for an event prize, participants must post photos from their run/walk, use the hashtag #ELSpookySprint, and share it on one of the United Way’s social media pages on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram (@united waympc). There will be three $100 event prizes given out for the most unique and creative posts.

“The Emerging Leaders would like to thank WVU Medicine for sponsoring the inaugural Spooky Sprint Virtual 5K,” said United Way Engagement Manager Servando Arredondo. “Since we won’t be able to get together for the Halloween Social, we’re excited to see all your posts from the 5K. Sign up, and don’t forget to tell your friends.”

The cost of the race, including the T-shirt, bib and medal, is $50, with the proceeds going toward the 2021 campaign. Money raised during the annual United Way campaign stays in Monongalia and Preston counties, providing support to 43 programs at 24 agencies.
