Detroit man charged with drug possession

Allegedly found on I-68 with cocaine, cash

A Detroit man was arrested after a state trooper reportedly found cocaine during a traffic stop.

Stewart Jenkins, 47, is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent by the West Virginia State Police.

While on a road patrol on Interstate 68, Senior Trooper L. Hall saw a Toyota Highlander make an illegal U-turn in the emergency turnaround, he wrote in a criminal complaint.

Hall pulled the Highlander over and spoke to its driver, Jenkins, who said Hall could search the vehicle, the complaint said.

As Jenkins was getting out of the SUV, Hall saw him grab a green bag, the complaint said. Jenkins walked around the vehicle and the bag disappeared. Hall found the bag on the ground by the rear driver’s side tire.

Inside the green bag were about 114 bags of a “white chalky substance” that field tested positive for cocaine, according to the complaint.

Jenkins was  arrested and Hall found $1,708 on him, the complaint said.

An additional 100 small blue bags “consistent with the individually packaged substance” were also found during the search, Hall wrote.

Jenkins was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court by Magistrate Sandy Holepit. He is being held in North Central Regional Jail on $15,000 bond.
