Kingwood woman faces child neglect charges

KINGWOOD — Police say a mother charged with child neglect after drugs and paraphernalia were found by her child said she had relapsed into drug use.

Bond was set at $100,000 for Nicole Dawn Cosco, 20, of Kingwood. She was in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail Wednesday.

In a criminal complaint, Preston Sheriff’s Deputy R. Martin Jr. says members of Cosco’s family called police after they said they found a “drug kit” in the room Cosco shared with her child.

A family member said they found the baby with his face covered with a blanket. The child was screaming and needles, pipes and a syringe with the needle exposed were lying nearby.

Deputy Martin said Cosco told him there was needles and pipes in a black book bag in the room. Martin said he found another drug kit in the baby formula container on the dresser by the book bag.

On asking what happened, “She stated ‘I relapsed,’” according to the complaint.

The child’s father is in jail on unrelated drug charges, according to the complaint.
