Three injured in three-vehicle wreck

MORGANTOWN — Three people were taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle wreck on Thursday morning.

The crash was reported at about 11:30 a.m. near the Interstate 79 northbound on-ramp on Chaplin Road.

The driver of a 2016 Kia Sorento did not yield at the stop sign exiting I-79 northbound, Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer said.

The Sorento struck a Toyota Tundra, with a dump trailer full of gravel, traveling east on Chaplin Road, Palmer said.

The Tundra crossed the center median and struck a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro traveling west on Chaplin Road, according to Palmer.

Star City Volunteer Fire Chief Justin Knotts said one person, who was in the badly damaged Camaro, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The other people had minor injuries, Knotts said.

Palmer was not to provide the patients’ status on Thursday afternoon.

Chaplin Road was blocked from the northbound on-ramp to the southbound on-ramp until about 2 p.m.

Accident reconstructionists were on the scene and the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the wreck, Palmer said

Granville Fire Department, Star City EMS, Mon EMS, the West Virginia State Police and the West Virginia Department of Highways also responded.
