Terra Alta mayor charged with falsifying document

KINGWOOD — Preston Prosecutor Melvin C. Snyder III has charged Terra Alta Mayor Robert DeLauder with falsifying his request for a public defender.

DeLauder is charged with false swearing and perjury.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Snyder, DeLauder didn’t list his salary as mayor on the request for a court appointed attorney. Instead he listed his gross monthly income as zero, according to the complaint.

He was arraigned Wednesday and freed on $500 bond.

In June, Snyder charged DeLauder with “alteration, concealment or destruction of public record” for allegedly removing a meeting agenda from the door of town hall and throwing it away.
