Water advisory for Pleasant Valley PSD

There is a boil water advisory in effect for customers of Pleasant Valley PSD in Maidsville. This advisory is due to a main water line break. 

The advisory includes all homes from:  3999-1910 Lazzelle Union Road, Wades Road, Whispering Ridge Road, Engineering Drive, Golden Acres subdivision, Dollar Road, Wendys Way, Hanover Street, Bowlby Hill Road,  Bonfili Lane, 74 Braham Road, Holbert Lane, Bowlby Road, Regal Drive, Wildflower Lane, Robinson Run Road, Davis Heights Road, Kennan Road, New Mayle Hill, Hilltop Village, Taylortown Road, Cherry Creek Road, Lazzelle School Road, Wilkins Mine Road, Bethel Road, Cool Road, Buck Cool Road, Jenny Lane, and Bethel Church Road.

Learn  about Preston County life in other centuries on July 19.

Celebrate Preston County History Day by visiting Arthurdale Heritage, open 1-5 p.m.; the Aurora Area Historical Society Museum, open

 1-4 p.m.; McGrew House in Kingwood, open 1-3 p.m.; and Rowlesburg’s Szilagyi  Center, open 1-4 p.m.  

Learn about the nation’s first New Deal subsistence homestead project at Arthurdale. See why Aurora was once a renowned summer resort town for Washington, D.C. residents. Learn about  Kingwood businessman James McGrew, who also helped West Virginia to become the 35th state. The Szilagyi Center gives attendees  insights into World War II, the county’s sports heroes and railroad bridges.

The History House, with extensive genealogical archives, in Terra Alta, is open by appointment by calling 304-329-3826.

Gun Bash to be livestreamed

Cheat Lake VFD’s 2020 Gun Bash was rescheduled from April 25 to noon Aug. 1. Due to COVID-19,  the event will not be in the VFD event hall, instead organizers will use Facebook live for the drawings of the prizes listed on the

 $25 ticket. Three additional cash prizes totaling $1,000 will be drawn using the same ticket numbers, since  the event cannot be held in person.

There are still some tickets remaining. Call or text Harvey at 304-276-2833 to purchase. Winners will be notified when they win. Winning numbers will be posted after the live drawing. Prize pick ups will be organized via phone. Prizes must be claimed in 30 days.
