Morgantown Police Department employee tests positive for COVID-19

MORGANTOWN — A civilian employee with the Morgantown Police Department tested positive for COVID-19 and is under self-isolation for 14 days.

An additional 12 city employees were in contact with the individual, according to Morgantown Communications Director Andrew Stacy. Those employees — five MPD officers, five MPD civilian employees and two Morgantown Parking Authority employees — were asked to self-isolate and get tested.

According to a release issued by the department, MPD is working with the Monongalia County Health Department for guidance and for any additional contact tracing. Police department administration reached out to employees who may have come into close contact with the individual and instructed them to self-isolate for 14 days.

The release states the department does not believe the person had any contact with the general public as part of their duties.

Along with the above safety measures, the department has been thoroughly deep-cleaned, the release notes.

The positive test is expected to have little to no operational impact on the MPD.
