Two bodies recovered Friday from Monongahela and Cheat Rivers

Two bodies were recovered Friday from Monongahela and Cheat rivers.

The body of a man who drowned in the Cheat River was recovered in Preston County.

According to a witness, the man was pulled from the river Friday morning outside Rowlesburg, along U.S. 50.

The Preston County Sheriff’s Department, Preston County Dive Team, State Police, Division of Natural Resources officers, and others were at the scene.

More information is expected to be released later by police.

The body of a black male was recovered from the Monongahela River near Walnut Street on Friday afternoon.

The body was discovered just past Walnut Street toward West Virginia University’s downtown campus, shortly before 1 p.m.

The Morgantown Fire Department used its boat and worked with the Morgantown Police Department to get the man’s body to shore.

The man did not have any identification and his body was sent to the morgue to be examined by a medical examiner, according to Morgantown Communications Director Andrew Stacy.

It’s too early for police to determine a cause of death or if foul play was involved, Stacy said.
