Statewide food drive helps families during coronavirus pandemic

Organizers collected bags and boxes of nonperishable items Tuesday outside of Kroger in Sabraton — one of several Country Roads Food Drive drop-off sites.

The statewide food collection and fundraiser was organized by several United Way locations to help West Virginia families during the coronavirus pandemic. It kicked off at 7 a.m. and wrapped up in the evening.

Locally, the Kroger in Sabraton hosted West Virginia Radio Corp. personnel who took donations of food from area residents to get to United Way of Mon and Preston Counties.

Monetary donations, as well as food, cleaning products and personal hygiene items were welcome. Pickering Associates matched monetary donations up to $10,000.
