Man charged following crash

Found with drugs, money, cell phones on I-68 bridge

A vehicle crash on Interstate 68 over the weekend led to the arrest of a Charles Town man for allegedly having drugs for sale and driving while high.

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department charged Travon L. Carr, 33,  with possession with intent to distribute, failure to maintain control, driving while license suspended or revoked and DUI-drugs.

Deputy J. Ward responded to a vehicle crash on I-68, near mile marker 10, the Cheat Lake Exit, and found two cars wedged against each other on the bridge over Cheat Lake, according to a criminal complaint.

Carr’s silver Chevrolet HHR had another vehicle pinned against the side of the bridge, the complaint said.

Everyone involved refused medical treatment, Sheriff Perry Palmer said.

Witnesses said before the crash, Carr was driving what looked like more than 100 mph and swerving in and out of traffic. Carr was also acting “weird,” the complaint said.

Carr’s eyes were blood shot and glassy and his speech was slurred, the complaint said. He said he smoked marijuana earlier in the day and said there was a small amount of it in the vehicle.

Carr failed a field sobriety test and was arrested, according to the complaint.

Carr had multiple cell phones and $1,655 that was “banded up.”

At the sheriff’s department, Carr was searched and deputies found a bag of MDMA, nine generic Xanax and three generic Clonazepam, the complaint said. A search of his vehicle found seven-10 grams of marijuana.
