Kingwood sewers contain grease from Pine Ridge

KINGWOOD — Problems with grease going into the sewers at Pine Ridge nursing home was once again a topic of discussion at the Monday Kingwood Sewer Board meeting.

Sewer Department Supervisor Nick Wolfe said his crew was unable to determine if any improvements were made to the facility’s sewer system due to COVID-19 quarantine.

However, he said, his crew has continued to remove 60 pounds of grease when they clean the grease traps weekly.

Wolfe said of the 230 pounds of trash collected from sewers on W.Va. 7, South Port, Camp Dawson, Allegheny and River Station, 60% is from Pine Ridge.

“We need to have them back in when this (COVID-19) is over,” board chairman and Kingwood Mayor Jean Guillot said. “They’ve eliminated the trash but we still have the grease. This is more than any other place in town.”

In other business, board members discussed eliminating some grinder pumps. Wolfe said 11 pumps could be eliminated if a line was put in to the homes located across from the hospital.

“If we put a line in from the manhole at the main road we can pick up all of the houses back in there,” he said.

Board members discussed the possibility of having an engineer oversee the project to make sure there would be no problems due to elevation.

“There’s other areas that need service on Route 7 and toward Camp Dawson,” Wolfe said.

No further action was taken.

Board members unanimously voted to accept Kayla Huggins’ resignation from the board and hire Amy DeBerry as her replacement. Huggins also submitted her resignation as city clerk on April 21. DeBerry already works for the Kingwood Water Works.
