Two sexual assault cases lead to arrests

KINGWOOD — Preston County Sheriff’s deputies investigated separate sexual assault allegations, arresting two men — one from the area and the other from Missouri.

Deputies said a Masontown man called to report he felt suicidal because he had sexually abused a child for 11 years.

Donald Lee Tennant, 46, of Masontown, was charged with felony sexual abuse. He was in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail Tuesday in lieu of $250,000 bond.

According to the criminal complaint by Cpl. J.C. Farling, Tennant called the sheriff’s department in January, confessing to the abuse and saying he wanted to kill himself because of it. In an interview, the victim confirmed the facts of Tennant’s confession, according to the complaint.

Tennant was arrested Monday on the charge.

Deputies also charged a Missouri man with sexually assaulting a juvenile.

Danny James Spiker Jr., 31, of Festus, Mo., was in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail Tuesday in lieu of $500,000 bond. He is charged with three counts of felony sexual abuse.

According to the criminal complaint by Cpl. J.C. Farling, in October 2019 Spiker and a woman brought her three children to Preston County. The children were returned to Missouri in that state’s care after deputies located them. Spiker and the woman were charged with obstructing an officer at the time.

In Missouri, one of the children, a 13-year-old girl, was hospitalized for a possible miscarriage, according to the complaint. She told authorities Spiker had been sexually abusing her for about eight years, including three alleged incidents in Preston County.
