Officials postpone Buckwheat Fest pageant

KINGWOOD — The 11 Preston High seniors who are running for Queen Ceres will have to wait a bit longer for the competition to begin.

The Buckwheat Festival Royalty Pageant, scheduled for April 18, has been postponed. There are dates in May and June that are under consideration, but no decision has been made at this time, according to the festival.

The Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department, the sponsor of the festival, canceled all activities and rentals of its buildings until May 8. There will be no Firefighter Breakfast on Easter Sunday, April 12.

In other Buckwheat Festival news, 2020 General Chairman Buddy Turner named Tarrell Ries the assistant general chair.

The 2020 Buckwheat Festival theme is Vision 2020 — Preston County Proud. The theme is selected by the general chairman with approval of KVFD members.

The theme and the logo are offered on T-shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts and as a lapel pin. These items will be available at the KVFD monthly breakfasts and then during the festival at the arts and crafts show.

The forms for entry in the arts and crafts show are now available on the website at buckwheat fest.com. Entries are due April 17.
