Mylan Park renovations to include Aquatic Center upgrades, wifi accessibility

MORGANTOWN — Renovations at Mylan Park are well underway, and park officials have significant plans for its future.

The mission statement featured on Mylan Park’s official website reads: “The Mylan Park Foundation Inc. advances the educational, recreational, social and economic benefits to [north-central] West Virginia citizens, with the purpose of improving the quality of life for residents of, and visitors to, the Greater Morgantown area.”

To improve the quality of life for those who visit the area, Mylan Park is improving and expanding itself.

Noah Balser, associate director of Facilities and Operations at Mylan Park, provided a list of the renovations and improvements being made to the park.

The Mylan Park Aquatic Center is “getting a facelift at the Anchor Complex,” according to Balser. The highlight of the Aquatic Center is its “1.17-million-gallon pool,” used for not only leisurely activities, but also for competitive swimming and diving.

“[The Anchor Complex will be getting] new sod, fencework and reconstructed bleachers,” Balser said.

Old bleachers will be brought to Mylan Park from Hawley Field, a historical baseball field in Morgantown, and remodeled for usage at Mylan Park. Balser referred to the bleacher remodel as the “highlight of the renovation.”

In addition to the alterations made to the Aquatic Center, the wifi throughout Mylan Park is being upgraded.

LED-lit wayfinding signage will also be added to the park.

“[This makes it] easier for the community to find buildings in the park,” Balser said.

The Monongalia County Service Building at Mylan Park will also be updated.

“[This building] houses Department of Agriculture offices for the State of West Virginia,” said Balser.

The building also brings 4,200 square feet of event space to the park, useful for smaller gatherings or wedding receptions. The park has had two building openings in the last six months, according to Balser.

There will also be the addition of an access road to the park from I-79. Balser said that while “there is no timeline yet,” the project “definitely is happening.” The West Virginia Division of Highways did not respond to attempts to gain more information on the I-79 access road.
