Phone call scams to avoid

There have been reports that some county residents have been receiving telephone calls from individuals claiming they will come into your house and check your vital signs, should you become ill.

At this time, there is no agency that is legitimately doing this service, according to the Preston County Health Department.

All residents have been advised to follow guidelines from the CDC and health departments and avoid unnecessary travel whenever possible, as well as maintaining distance when interacting with others.

The Preston County Sheriff’s Department reminds residents to be aware of telephone scams and not to give out personal information, especially banking and credit card information.

Report suspicious instances to area law enforcement or the West Virginia Attorney General at the consumer protection line at 800-368-8808 or the senior protection line at 304-558-1155.
