Your Community Foundation awards $10K

Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia Inc. recently awarded a total of $10,000 in grants to eight local charitable organizations to assist in keeping residents warm this winter.

Grants were distributed in each of the five counties in YCF’s region ($2,000 per county):

-Harrison County

-The Change Initiative

-Marion County

-North Central West Virginia Community Action (Scott Place Homeless Shelter)

-The Connecting Link

-Monongalia County United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties (Spruce Street UMC)

-Christian Help

-Preston County

-North Central West Virginia Community Action (Kingwood office)

-Catholic Charities WV

-Taylor County

-Taylor County Collaborative Resource Network

“Last year, YCF received grant requests totaling more than $400,000, far exceeding our available funding. After reviewing applications, we knew winter weather assistance was a need for our region. We were able to secure the grant and spread the funds evenly across the five counties we serve,” said YCF President Patty Showers Ryan.

YCF board members Nate White (left) and Billy Atkins present the Rev. Neil Leftwich of the Spruce Street UMC and Janette Strawser Lewis of the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties with a $1,000 grant award to support the organization’s needs for its emergency cold weather shelter.

The organizations will use the funds for emergency cold weather shelters, winter clothing and blankets and heating utility assistance. The grant was made possible by the Caroline Holdship Charitable Trust through the PNC Charitable Trust Review Committee.
