One injured, two arrested after drug deal turned robbery on Saturday morning

Two men were arrested following a robbery that ended with one person being shot on College Avenue early Saturday morning.

Ethan S. Horseman, 20, is charged with unlawful wounding, first-degree armed robbery, and conspiracy. Edward Hnewea Kolleh, 28, is charged with first-degree armed robbery and conspiracy.

One of the men called 911 and said his apartment was shot up with a shotgun during a fight over marijuana and Morgantown Police officers were dispatched to 925 College Ave. at 1:14 a.m., according to a criminal complaint.

About 1:30 a.m., officers went to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital for a shooting victim, who is not identified in the complaint.

The residents of the apartment, Kolleh and Horseman, told officers two men tried to steal their marijuana and “a gunfight occurred as a result,” the complaint said.

However, the two had pre-planned to rob the men who were there to buy marijuana, according to MPD Chief Ed Preston.

The two buyers were sitting with their backs against a closet, where Kolleh was hiding. When Horseman said a code word, Kolleh came out of the closet with a shotgun and demanded the victims empty their pockets. Horseman pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victims, Preston said.

A cellphone and money were taken from one of the victims and the four men began to struggle over the guns, which resulted in Horseman shooting the victim in the hip, the complaint said.

Multiple shots were fired inside and outside the apartment and both robbery victims ran away, Preston said. After running away, the victim realized he was shot and went to the hospital for treatment.

Horseman and Kolleh were arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court on Saturday. Magistrate Sandy Holepit set Horseman’s bond at $250,000 and Kolleh’s at $150,000. They will be held in North Central Regional Jail.
