Woman charged in fatal bicycle accident

KINGWOOD — A Bruceton Mills woman has been charged in the death of a bicyclist she struck with her car Monday.

Tara Lorissa Evans, 27, was charged by West Virginia State Police with involuntary manslaughter, negligent homicide, reckless driving and use of an electronic device (cell phone) without handheld features.

According to the criminal complaint by Trooper C.E. Smith, Robin Ames, 37, of Bruceton Mills, was dead at the scene of the accident on Old Route 73 when he arrived at the scene.

“The defendant [Evans] stated she was using her cell phone while driving and struck the victim. She stated she did not see the victim until after she heard the ‘thud’ from striking him because she was looking at her phone,” according to the complaint.

Evans was driving a blue Chevrolet Equinox, according to troopers. She was arraigned late Tuesday in Preston County Magistrate and bond was set at $100,000, which she posted.
