W.Va. Filmmakers Guild hosts Oscars watch party at Starport

MORGANTOWN — Film fans gathered at Starport Arcade and Pub to check out Hollywood’s biggest night Sunday, when the West Virginia Filmmakers Guild hosted an Oscars watch party at the Chestnut Street establishment.

Attendees had the chance to win door prizes and awards, as well as play movie trivia, while watching the 92nd Academy Awards. Among the evening’s winners were Joaquin Phoenix (best actor), Renée Zellwegger (best actress), Brad Pitt (supporting actor), Laura Dern (supporting actress), “Parasite” (best picture) and Bong Joon Ho (best director), who helmed the South Korean dark comedy.

According to its website, WVFG’s mission is to serve media artists of the state “through the stimulation of public awareness, education and understanding of the social, cultural, and economic impact of the media arts in West Virginia — specifically film, video, photography and digital media.” The nonprofit accepted donation at the door Sunday. In addition to events such as the watch party, the guild also hosts workshops and festivals.
