Urbana 62, Davis & Elkins 61 | Final Stats

ELKINS, W.Va.
— Urbana erased a 16-point deficit down the stretch and stunned Davis & Elkins with Shaunn Monroe’s buzzer-beater to win 62-61 on Wednesday night.
 
Urbana was down by 10 at the half and 16 with 6:52 to go in the game, but rattled off a 13-2 run over the next 2:11 to get back into the game at 56-51. Urbana still trailed by seven with less than two minutes left, but went on a quick 6-0 spurt to get to within one at 60-59. D&E’s Erkam Kiris made 1-of-2 from the free throw line to push the lead to two with 20 seconds left. Urbana settled for the last shot, and Monroe got the ball several steps from behind the top of the arc, and drained the game-winner as time expired.
 
UU had a balanced scoring attack as Monroe and Tehree Horn each scored 12, and Mike Ryan and Tayler McNeal each had 11.
 
Donte Doleman led Davis & Elkins with 15 points. Kiris added 13. Patrick Wilburn had seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

West Virginia State 96, West Liberty 93 | Final Stats
 INSTITUTE, W.Va.  – Despite being down several starters due to illness, West Virginia State held off West Liberty, 96-93, on Wednesday night at the Walker Convocation Center.
 
Down two with 10 minutes left in the game, West Virginia State went on a 9-0 run surge into the lead. The lead swelled to 10 at 92-82 with three minutes left, but the ‘Toppers battled back to get to within a bucket at 95-93 with still 1:20 left. Neither team could manage a field goal in the final 80 seconds of play, and WVSU added a free throw for the final margin. West Liberty had a last attempt as time expired, but the game-tying attempt would not go down.
 
Glen Abram poured in 28 of his game-high 38 points in the first half with Isaiah Noel adding 22 tallies. Carmearl Thomas was 7-for-7 from the floor while working the paint for 15 points and a dozen boards. The Yellow Jackets – who shot a blistering 70 percent from the floor in the first half – finished the night 30-of-53 (56 percent) from the floor, 7-of-16 (43 percent) from the three-point arc and 29-of-41 (70 percent) from the foul line.
 
Will Yoakum just missed a double-double with 29 points and 9 rebounds while Dalton Bolon hit seven 3-pointers and added 28 points along with nine rebounds before fouling out with 2 minutes to go. Luke Dyer added 14 points and 5 assists as WLU went 35-of-82 (42 percent) from the floor, 16-of-46 (34 percent) from the 3-point arc and 7-of-8 (87 percent) from the foul line.

Fairmont State 79, Glenville State 77 | Final Stats
GLENVILLE, W.Va.
— Fairmont State nipped Glenville State, 79-77, on Wednesday night at the Waco Center in a key Mountain East Conference matchup. 

A close game throughout, Glenville State erased rallied back from an eight-point deficit with a 15-6 run over a seven-minute span to grab a 71-70 lead with just 2:18 left. Fairmont State’s Ilisa Washington answered with a three-pointer to put the Falcons back in front, and FSU pushed its lead to four at 76-72 with under a minute left after a Cole VonHandorf jumper. A pair of Phil Bledsoe free throws got the Pioneers back to within two, but VonHandorf converted his free throw attempts to keep the margin at four. 

Glenville State couldn’t knock down a three on its next possession and Washington made 1-of-2 from the line, and Hegel Augustin was able to convert a conventional three-point play to make it 79-77. The Pioneers forced a turnover to get the ball back in the final seconds, but could not get a shot to try and tie or win the game. 

VonHandorf led all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting to go with five rebounds. Dale Bonner filled the box score with 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Washington finished with 14. 

Augustin had a big double-double for the Pioneers with 22 points and 19 rebounds. Steven Verplancken scored 18 points, had eight rebounds and dished out four assists. Noah Frampton tossed in 11 more and also had seven rebounds. 

Wheeling 71, Charleston 66 | Final Stats
CHARLESTON, W.Va.
— Wheeling shot 56 percent of the field as it upset Charleston, 71-66, on Wednesday night at the Wehrle Innovation Center. 

The Cardinals led 34-27 at the half, and then shot 68 percent from the field in the second half (15-of-22) to go on to the win. 

UC trailed by as many as 10 in the second half, but battled back to take a late lead at 63-62 after a pair of Dre Rackley free throws. Wheeling, though, closed the game on a 9-3 run to seal the victory. 

Jarett Haines led the Cardinals with 24 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Jay Reid added 15 more and John Korte came off the bench to score 10 points. 

Rackley had a game-high 26 points and also handed out six assists for UC. Lamong McManus was 8-of-11 from the field on his way to 20 points. 

West Virginia Wesleyan 90, Notre Dame 63 | Final Stats
BUCKHANNON, W.Va.
— West Virginia Wesleyan’s hot second half lifted the Bobcats to a 90-63 win over Notre Dame on Wednesday night at the Rockefeller Center. 

Leading by just three at the half, WVWC went on a 16-6 run to open the second half and never looked back. The Bobcats shot a scorching 71 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes (20-of-28) in the win. 

Luka Petrovic was 9-of-14 from the field on his way to 23 points to go along with nine rebounds and six assists. Daylin Lee had 16 points, and Anthony Garcia scored 15 points and six rebounds. Clay Todd contributed 13 points, and Ross Young reached double figures with 10 points.

Notre Dame was led by 19 points from Drew Scarberry. Levi Frankland added 14.
