The Shack Neighborhood House’s Junior Volunteer Program

Middle- and high-school students had the chance to learn about The Shack Neighborhood House’s Junior Volunteer Program on Friday.

The evening included free food, hot chocolate, video games, basketball and crafts.

The volunteer program allows participants to earn hours that can go toward school requirements or college applications. They spend part of their time helping around the building, whether that’s preparing snacks or cleaning and picking up trash.

The rest of the time, The Shack Program Coordinator Devon McDaniel said students can socialize and do a variety of activities, as well as work toward monthly incentives, such as going to basketball games or having pizza parties.
