K.J. McClurg scores 1,000th point as University tops Parkersburg South 77-65

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — K.J. McClurg scored his 1,000th-career point as the University High boys’ basketball team defeated Class AAA No. 8 Parkersburg South, 77-65, on Tuesday.

McClurg finished the game with a double-double, scoring 18 points and collecting 10 rebounds. Kaden Metheny scored 21 points and had seven assists for the Hawks (10-3).

John Ross Mazza and Aaron Forbes made their first career starts and filled in nicely. Mazza scored 21 points and made five 3-pointers, and Forbes netted 10 points. University made 10 total 3-pointers in the contest.

The Hawks went into halftime with just a seven-point lead but managed to pad to it in the second half and pulled away for the victory.

University will play again at 7:30 p.m. Saturday against John Marshall for Senior Night.
