Helen Cline

Helen Jane Cline went to be with the Lord Jan. 5, 2020, surrounded by family at Garrett Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Clarksburg, the daughter of the late Captain Charles E. and Rachel Hostetter Phillips.

She graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science, in 1960, and a Master of Arts in Literacy Education, in 1972. After a 30-year teaching career, she retired from the Preston County Board of Education, in 1988.

Following retirement, Jane was led to mission services. She first served as a Crisis Intervention Specialist at a women’s shelter near Atlanta, Ga., counseling victims of domestic violence. As a Christian missionary, Jane traveled through Bhutan, China and Russia. She was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church.

Jane was a founding member of the Rowlesburg Revitalization Committee, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Business and Professional Women’s Association, and a Board member of the Preston Taylor Community Health Centers. She was also a volunteer at the Rowlesburg Community Park, Rowlesburg Athletic Boosters, Rowlesburg PTO, Rowlesburg School, and the Carol Anne Hooton Library. Additionally, Jane was an avid WVU athletics fan and rarely missed a game.

Jane is survived by her children and their spouses, Charles Cline and Cheryl, of Aurora, W.Va.; Jane Cline Chilton and Robert, of Charleston, W.Va.; Margaret Martin and Robert II; Jon Ellen Cline; Katherine Everly and James II, all of Rowlesburg, W.Va. Seven grandchildren and spouses, John Jay Grago and Tracy, of Petersburg, W.Va.; Charles Cline II and Kathy, of Cranesville, W.Va.; Christian Martin and Sarah, of Raeford, NC; Caitlin Martin and Sadee, of Raeford, NC; Mackenzie Hoffer and Brady; Todd Everly and Elesa; Zachary Everly, all of Rowlesburg, W.Va. Great-grandchildren Nicholas Leonard; Brooke Hawk and Taylor Grago; Kilie and Christian Martin II; Abigail Cline; Elizabeth Hoffer. As well as, lifelong family friend Anne Felty and many more nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to acknowledge the many wonderful friends Jane had throughout her life, too many of which there are to list individually.

Cremation services were under the direction of Rotruck-Lobb Crematory.
