Resort joins hotel group

Lakeview now part of Wyndham trademark system

The new owners of Lakeview Golf Resort in Morgantown have joined forces with the Wyndham Hotel Group to better market the resort and its two golf courses.

The new arrangement, signed on Dec. 31, will give owner Ail Hospitality access to Wyndam’s reservation system and present Lakeview to a larger customer base, said Miguel Gonzalez, Ail’s vice president of operations.

“We’ll be using their services, but keeping our identity,” Gonzalez said.

The relationship between Ail and Wyndham is called a trademark collection. Calls to Lakeview are now answered “Welcome to Lakeview, a trademark hotel by Wyndham.”

According to the Wyndham website, its Trademark Collection is a “soft-branded, independently minded collection of upper-midscale and above properties.” Ownership remains independent — as is the case of Lakeview — but customers get access to Wyndham’s hotel loyalty program, which has more than 50 million members. Wyndham has roughly 115 Trademark Collection hotels, according to its website.

“It will help us and our clients,” Gonzalez said.

“Everything these days is done on the internet.”

There are no plans to change signage, Gonzalez said. Ail plans to spruce up the front of the resort and then update the rooms and add amenities, such as larger televisions.

“It has been a “win-win” he said.

Ail Hospitality had a successful online bid of $2.5 million in a fall auction for the resort, the two golf courses, time share facilities and other amenities. Ail has eight hotel properties in Maryland, Pennsylvania and suburban Washington, D.C.

Lakeview, founded in 1950 by Ward Christopher, sits on 412 acres and has 36,500 square feet of meeting space, a 40,000-square-foot fitness center, Legends Sports Bar & Grille and Fusion Restaurant, several swimming pools and direct access to other outdoor recreation options.

Golf legend Sam Snead won the West Virginia Open and set the Lakeview course record of 67 in 1958, according to Golfer’s Lifestyle Magazine, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer played an exhibition match in 1971 and tied the course record.
