As they score: West Virginia knocks off TCU 20-17

FORT WORTH, Texas — WEST VIRGINIA TOUCHDOWN, 2:10 4th quarter, 20-17 WVU: Finally, Jarret Doege hit a deep ball. An excellent throw and catch down the sideline to Isaiah Esdale gives the Mountaineers the lead. It was Esdale’s first career touchdown grab.

WEST VIRGINIA FIELD GOAL, 1:25 3rd quarter, 17-10 TCU: After Sean Mahone gets his first interception of the season, Kennedy McKoy rips off a 36-yard run to get WVU into the red zone, but it can’t find the end zone. Evan Staley boots a 24-yard field goal.

TCU TOUCHDOWN, 10:32 3rd quarter, 17-10 TCU: After WVU goes 3-and-out, Jalen Reagor returned the punt 70 yards for a score.

WEST VIRGINIA FIELD GOAL, 5:18 2nd quarter, 10-10: Another promising drive stalls in the red zone for West Virginia, as Evan Staley squeaks in a 40-yard field goal.

TCU FIELD GOAL, 9:52 2nd quarter, 10-7 TCU: The Horned Frogs grab the lead on a 30-yard field goal. WVU’s defense buckled down in the red zone.

TCU TOUCHDOWN, 5:16 1st quarter, 7-7: Taye Barber took a sweep and bolted through a wide open hole for a 64-yard run. The drive was topped off by Sewo Olonilua’s 2-yard touchdown run to tie it for the Horned Frogs.

TOUCHDOWN WEST VIRGINIA, 10:40 1st quarter, 7-0 WVU: After a great pass breakup by Sean Mahone that leads to a Tykee Smith interception, the Mountaineers convert in the red zone, finishing with a touchdown pass by Jarret Doege to Leddie Brown.
