Mayor must give quote for tree trim

Titus owns service, any work must be approved by WVEC

REEDSVILLE — The West Virginia Ethics Commission ruled Mayor Jason Titus will have to give town council a quote for his business to trim trees in the park.

In seeking bids for the work, two contractors were contacted, but neither responded.

The commission told town council if the quote is less than $1,000, it must be voted on. Titus and council member Britney Titus must recuse themselves from the vote and leave the room. Not to do so would be a conflict of interest.

The Tituses own Brown’s Mill Excavating LLC and Brown’s Mill LP Service. Because Jason Titus serves as mayor of Reedsville, and his wife Britney is a councilwoman, the WVEC must approve any work they do for the town.

The commission said it will have to be stated in the minutes of the procedure that they left the room.

If the quote is more than $1,000, a contract extension will need to be given by the commission.
