Preston commission talks emergency training

KINGWOOD — Preston County Commissioners talked Monday about training all county workers to respond to an attack or other emergency.
Assessor Connie Ervin inquired about a month ago about such training.

County Administrator Kathy Mace said Monday she spoke with Preston Sheriff’s Cpl. J.C. Farling about that office providing ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training.

Mace said they discussed providing training for all county employees. Farling suggested the training be done at Preston High, Mace said, followed by deputies meeting with employees in each office.

She suggested, and the commission approved, forming a county emergency response team to develop training and policies.

There will be a personnel cost for the training, she said, because it should be done on a Saturday or evening. Training could cover everything from a software attack to an active shooter, Mace said.

“I wouldn’t want to wait until something happened and wish that we had,” done the training, Commission President Dave Price said.

Commissioner Don Smith agreed. Commissioner Samantha Stone was not at the meeting.

Also Monday, commissioners:

Saw a prototype of a sign Mace was asked to order, saying that only service animals are permitted in county buildings. When questioned by The Dominion Post, Mace said no policy has been developed on what is needed to prove an animal is a service animal or what office will be responsible for enforcing the rule.

Commissioner Smith suggested asking other counties if they have such a policy.

Approved 911 hiring two part-time dispatchers, Selina Moreland and Kasey Loughrie, beginning Dec. 1, at a starting salary of $13 per hour.

Said equipment was moved in by a slip on W.Va. 72, where repairs are to start. The road has been one-way in that spot for more than a year.

Were told Preston and Monongalia Day at the Legislature will be Jan. 29.

Talked about the next step in adopting a revised policy manual. Smith revised the manual and is awaiting feedback from the other commissioners.
