Man tried to stab victim at apartment complex over previous conflict, police say

A man was arrested after he admitted to chasing a person with an open knife according to police.

Shane S. Weaver, 30, of Morgantown, is charged with malicious assault by the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy responded to an attempted stabbing at Streets Apartments, on Van Voorhis Road, on Tuesday because the caller and victim said Weaver came to the complex, started a disturbance and tried to stab them.

The victim said Weaver was there to confront them about a previous incident. Weaver confronted and tried to stab the victim when they went to take out trash, according to a criminal complaint.

Weaver’s knife made contact with the victim’s, which caused an abrasion on the lower stomach, according to the complaint.

Deputies learned Weaver was likely still on scene and found him in his vehicle outside of the apartment complex. He was detained and read his Miranda Rights, according to the complaint.

Weaver then admitted he brandished his knife at the victim, swung the open knife and ran after the victim with the open knife. The knife used was found folded in his pocket, the complaint said.

Bond was set at $20,000 and has not been posted.
