One man shot following bar argument, police say

One person was shot following an argument at a downtown bar early Sunday morning.

The Morgantown Police Department responded to a shots fired call at 3:25 a.m. near the intersection of Chestnut and Wall streets.

A group of people were involved in a verbal argument at 4th and Goal, a bar on Walnut Street, according to Chief Ed Preston.

The group left and walked towards the parking garage on Chestnut Street and the victim was waiting for his friend to bring the car around so they could leave, Preston said.

While he was waiting, a silver Ford Flex, driven by a tall, heavy-set black man, wearing a black jacket and blue jeans, stopped the vehicle, got out, and shot the victim in the arm. The victim ran away and was later treated at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital for a single gunshot wound to the arm before being released, Preston said.

The victim’s identity is not being released at this time.

The suspect drove off in the silver Ford Flex and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the MPD detective’s unit 304-284-7454 or the TIPS line at  304-284-7520.

WVU Alert, a Twitter account that released emergency information, issued a warning to avoid the area at 3:58 a.m. on Sunday and issued an all-clear at 5:32 a.m.
