Deputies seize drugs, recover stolen handgun, arrest two

A shots heard call resulted in the arrest of two men, the seizure of multiple types of drugs, including $20,000 worth of heroin, and the recovery of a stolen handgun.

Kyle A. Martin, 32, of Morgantown, is charged with one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and Darius D. Wade, 26, of Grosse Pointe, Mich., is charged with two counts.

“They did an outstanding job,” Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer said of his deputies. He praised their follow-up investigation on the call.

The shots were reported at 12:42 a.m. Saturday. When deputies arrived they found the front door of the home open and two shell casings on the front porch, according to Palmer.

Inside, the deputies found Martin, received his consent for a search and frisked him, Palmer said. Martin’s pockets had multiple bags of cocaine totaling 20 grams, three grams of heroin, seven grams of MDMA and $564, according to a criminal complaint.

Martin refused to give deputies his name — he was identified later — then asked deputies if he could get his shoes since he was being arrested.

The complaint said packaging materials were in plain view in Martin’s home and a search warrant was obtained.

During the search of Martin’s home, more narcotics, $6,300 in cash and four handguns were found, Palmer said. One of the handguns had been reported stolen.

While deputies were waiting for the search warrant outside of Martin’s home, a silver car with Uber and Lyft signs pulled into the driveway, waited a few seconds, then left and continued on Snake Hill Road, a complaint said.

A deputy followed and found the car parked at water tower up the road. He spoke to the driver, who said he picked Wade, the passenger, up at the Greyhound bus station in Pittsburgh, the complaint said.

Wade said he was trying to get to Star City, while the Uber driver said he was taking Wade to the Snake Hill Road address, Palmer said. Star City is roughly 9 1/2 miles from Martin’s home.

The vehicle’s driver gave deputies consent to search the car and a duffel bag was found in the backseat. The driver said Wade brought it into the car, Palmer said.

Just over 7 ounces of heroin and 2.1 ounces of cocaine were found in the duffel bag, Palmer said.

Both men were arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court by Senior Status Magistrate Darris Summers. Wade is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $40,000 bond. Martin is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
