MPD receives traffic safety award for 14th straight year

Morgantown Police Department was awarded for its traffic safety measures for the 14th straight year.

On Friday, the Automotive Association of America (AAA) awarded MPD with its Community Traffic Safety Platinum Award, during a ceremony in Bridgeport.

Star City Police Department, the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department and the University Police Department were also honored.

Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston said the award acknowledges the hard work MPD and other officers put in to keep drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians safe.

“Receiving these awards goes to show the effort that the city, the Morgantown Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies in the area put into making our roadways safer,” he said.

The Platinum Award is the highest award given by AAA and is representative of the numerous traffic safety measures the city has implemented, including the Governor’s Highway Safety Programs “Click It or Ticket” campaign, creating a Pedestrian Safety Board and Bicycle Board, hosting the ARIDE program and DWI Enhanced Enforcement.
