Morgantown man wanted for Sunday murder in Preston County has turned himself in

A man who fled Shorthorns Saloon in Terra Alta after a shooting death there early Sunday morning has turned himself in.

Hoard arrived with his lawyer at Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department Monday afternoon. He is being charged with murder. More information will be released as it becomes available.

According to Preston County Sheriff’s deputies, Aaron Glenn Hoard, 33, of Morgantown, shot and killed Grant Felton, 38, of Terra Alta, after a reported scuffle at the bar.

“Mr. Hoard fled the scene and is currently wanted for murder,” according to a Sunday night press release from the Preston County sheriff.

According to people who said they were eyewitnesses, Hoard was bounced from the establishment and returned with a gun.

Hoard was said to be driving a black 2018 Dodge Ram with an upholstery shop decal and phone number in the back window.

He was believed to be accompanied by a companion, Machaela J. Jeffries, and possibly their 1-year-old child, as of Monday morning.

According to Preston Sheriff’s Chief Deputy P.A. Pritt, the department is being assisted by State Police, West Virginia Natural Resources Police and the State Police Crime Scene Team.

Hoard is thought to be driving a black 2018 Dodge Ram with an upholstery store decal and phone in the window.
