Inclement weather delays Halloween festivities for some

Trick- or-treat moved to Friday or Saturday for many in region

Inclement weather means area residents won’t see trick-or-treaters on their doorsteps tonight. Instead, many municipalities have chosen to postpone festivities until Friday or Saturday, when Lee Hendricks, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Pittsburgh, said skies will likely be clear.

Temperatures this evening are predicted to hover around 58 degrees in Monongalia and Preston counties, with rain likely beginning this morning and continuing into the night.

“Some storms could be severe,” Hendricks said.

While Monongalia County will see winds of

15-20 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 30 mph, Preston County is expected to see wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour.

“With the wind, rain and sun going down, if you have the windshield wipers going, that could cause visibility issues for drivers with pedestrians on the street,” the meteorologist said.

Those issues aren’t likely Friday and Saturday. Friday evening, Hendricks predicts mostly clear skies in both counties, with temperatures holding steady at about 57-58 degrees. And, he said, “winds will have died down by then.”

Saturday, those in Monongalia County should expect to experience temperatures around 42 degrees at about 6 p.m., dipping to 40 degrees by 8 p.m. Preston County will be a bit chillier, with temperatures sitting at about 39 degrees at 6 p.m., dropping to 38 by 8 p.m., with a wind chill of about 34 degrees.
