PREP ROUNDUP: University High runners impress at Spiked Shoe Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Multiple University High runners impressed at the Harry Grove Spiked Shoe Invitational Friday at Penn State University.

Sophomore Josh Edwards took 1st in the boys 5k, beating out Penns Valley’s (Pa.) juniors Brendan Colwell and Colton Sands by mere seconds. Edwards clocked 15:24.3, five seconds better than Colwell (15:29.2) and 19 seconds ahead of Sands (15:43.0).

Fellow sophomore Rocco DeVincent was the second Hawk to place, missing the top 10 by 1.3 seconds and placing 11th with a time of 16.18.3. Sean Adams (State College, sophomore) took 10th place with a time of 16:17.0.

For the girls, junior Caroline Kirby took first with a time of 18:21.5, and was far ahead of 2nd place finisher Sophia Toti (Carlisle, Pa., 18:45.7). UHS senior Zoe Shetty finished 3rd with a time of 18:57.1, and senior Emma Williams placed 14th with a time of 19:37.0.

The UHS girls’ team placed 2nd overall, and the boys’ team placed 3rd.

BOYS’ SOCCER

TRINITY 8, MAGNOLIA 0

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Led by the duo of Noah Kurliko and Kyle Knight, Trinity (4-3-1) upended Magnolia (1-6) 8-0 Friday night. This marks the Warriors’ second win over the Blue Eagles to secure the season sweep.

Both players logged hat tricks on the night, with Kurliko leading the team in scoring with four goals. Calvin Blunt Jr. had the remaining goal. Kurliko and Knight each had one assist.

Fletcher Hartsock had five saves, while Magnolia’s keeper had 10.

“I challenged them after coming out flat against Weir (Monday) to come out adn take care of business, and to not take this team lightly,” coach Chad Laskody said. “They fed off each other’s energy and (got it done).”

Trinity returns to action Monday at 5:30 p.m. when they travel to John Marshall (3-3).
