Raymond Dalton

Raymond Dalton, 88, of Mountainview Road, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at the home of his daughter Susan, surrounded by his family.
Raymond was born in Morgantown, son of Johnathan and Edith Hart Dalton, on May 2, 1931.
Raymond was a simple man with simple needs. One of his favorite things to enjoy were buckwheat cakes made by his wife, Garnet.
Raymond’s work ethic was strong from an early age, where he tended the fire of the one-room schoolhouse on the Mountainview School Road. Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as an MP. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and started his lumber business, U.S. Lumber Co. He continued as owner-operator until his retirement in 2003.
He is survived by his three daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Darrell Dalton, Susan and Donald “Pork” Hilling and Lisa and James Hilling; four grandchildren, Justin Dalton, Tad Dalton, Dalton Hilling and Lexi Hilling; and two sisters, Audrey “Sis” McMillen and Laurie Lewis, all of Morgantown.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Garnet Summers Dalton; and grandson, Aaron Hilling.
Friends may call at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, and from 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, until the 3 p.m. services. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Westover VFW Post 9916 and the WVANG Camp Dawson.
