Jake Randa’s single lifts Auburn past West Virginia

GRANVILLE, W.Va. — Jake Randa hit a run-scoring single in the third inning, leading the Auburn Doubledays to a 7-2 win over the West Virginia Black Bears on Sunday.

The single by Randa, part of a two-run inning, gave the Doubledays a 1-0 lead before Ricardo Mendez scored on a forceout later in the inning.

The Doubledays later added three runs in the fourth and two in the sixth. In the fourth, Jake Alu drove in two runs and J.T. Arruda drove in one, while Arruda hit a two-run single in the sixth.

Auburn left-hander Evan Lee (3-2) picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits over five innings. Opposing starter Braxton Ashcraft (1-8) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game after a rough outing in which he allowed five runs and five hits over 3 2/3 innings.
