Elisa Jacques Huggins

Elisa Jacques Huggins, 90, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, at Fairmont Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born in Fairmont on Sept. 14, 1928, the daughter of the late Sesario and Flora Martinez Jacques.

Elisa graduated from St. Peters High School in 1949 and also attended the West Virginia Business College. During her senior year of high school, her father passed away from cancer making Elisa responsible for her mother and younger siblings. She worked at several local businesses, which included the Elks, McCrorys 5&10 Store and eventually Westinghouse.

During her employment at Westinghouse/North American Phillips Lighting Corporation, she held several positions. These jobs included relief operator and the stock room. Upon her retirement in 1991, she had accumulated 47 years of service.

Elisa was Catholic and a member of Immaculate Conception Church and enjoyed many church activities. These activities included participating in the church choir, making rosaries for the Catholic missionaries and being a door greeter for the parishioners. Elisa enjoyed the interaction with people of all walks of life and was always gracious.

Elisa is survived by three sisters, Maria Jacques Garcia, of Fairmont, Helen J. Simmons, of Grafton, and Amelia and “Buck” Fluharty, of Oviedo, Fla.; a very special niece, Ramona Anderson Warner, who is her god child; as well as several other nieces and nephews.

Elisa was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert “Jake” Huggins. Also preceding her in death were her siblings, Mary Agnes Jacques, Connie Richards, Juanita Jacques Wilson, Fernando “Fred” Jacques, Ellsworth Jacques and Sesario Jacques Jr. Also deceased are brothers-in-law, Edward Garcia, Mack H. Wilson, Donald Richards, Benny Martinez, Robert Rowe and Kenneth Clyde Simmons.

Friends may call at Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. Thursday with a vigil service to be held at 7 p.m. The Catholic funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, with Fr. Jojan Joseph, CST as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
