Fallen tree causes power outage for hundreds of homes

MORGANTOWN — If your lights didn’t turn on this morning, July 18, you can blame a fallen tree.

Mon Power confirmed that 786 customers were without power, due to a broken crossarm on a utility pole, off of U.S. 19 South, affecting parts of Westover. Crews were on hand at about 10 a.m. to deal with a tree that fell on lines. At that time, 65 customers had power restored.

Jeff Straight, a Mon Power spokesperson, said workers were handling the issue as “quickly and safely as possible” and, as of noon, Mon Power’s website showed no outages.
