Morgantown Post 2 defeated Bridgeport 12-2

BRIDGEPORT — The Morgantown Post 2 baseball team defeated Bridgeport American Legion Post 68, 12-2, on Tuesday thanks in part to Quintin Smith, who drove in four runners.

Smith drove in runs on a triple and a home run in the fourth inning.

Morgantown secured the victory thanks to ten runs in said fourth inning.

The rest of the Post 2 offense in that monstrous inning was led by doubles by Ethan Smith, Caleb Taylor and Gavin Cottle, and a home run by Clay Maholic. Taylor finished the game with three RBIs and Maholic had two.

Morgantown struck first in the first inning after Taylor hit a solo homer. Then followed it up with another run in the second before the breakout fourth inning.

Morgantown only had three total batters strike out in the game and three batters got on base because of walks.

Evan Smith started on the mound for the Post 2 team and got the win. He pitched all five innings, allowing just two runs on four hits and struck out seven Bridgeport batters.

Bridgeport struggled to score runs off Evan Smith — collecting only four total hits. Quintin Reep and Sam Romano also got on base with walks.

Max Harbert started for Bridgeport and took the loss. He surrendered eight runs on 11 hits over 3.1 innings pitched, striking out only two batters. He was relieved for in the fourth inning.

Morgantown had 14 total hits in the game. Maholic, Casey Smith, Cottle, Taylor and Quintin Smith each managed at least two hits in the contest.

Morgantown didn’t commit a single error in the field. The Post 2 squad will play again at 7 p.m. today against Elkins.
