Longtime Preston administrator retiring after 12 years

KINGWOOD — Monday was Kathy Mace’s final county commission meeting as Preston County administrator.

After 12 years as administrator, Mace is retiring July 1. She will continue to work as a part-time temporary employee for the next year, with a cap of $20,000 on her salary.

Shannon Wolfe was hired to fill her position.

During the meeting, several people thanked Mace for her work, and she thanked others for working with her.

Commission President Dave Price said, “It’s been pretty special.”

“You’ve really helped me a lot, and I’ve learned a lot,” Friends of the Cheat Director Amanda Pitzer told her.

Mace said she is blessed.

“Everybody doesn’t get an opportunity to retire,” she said. “It’s been pretty special.”

A former radio reporter, chamber of commerce director and county commissioner, Mace said the job is about working with others, not doing it alone.

“The beauty of this is that it’s not one person. It takes every person working together to make that happen,” she said.

A retirement reception for Mace will be held 1-4 p.m. Friday at the commission meeting room behind the courthouse annex.
