West Virginia adds first defensive commit for 2020

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Neal Brown added his first verbal commitment on the defensive side of the ball at West Virginia courtesy of New Jersey defensive lineman Aaron Lewis.

Lewis is a 6-foot-4, 240-pound strongside defensive end from Williamstown, N.J. who is rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals. Lewis selected the Mountaineers over Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Wisconsin. Lewis initially visited Morgantown on Feb. 16 and returned for the spring game last weekend. Lewis was originally scheduled to visit Michigan before cancelling for West Virginia’s spring game.

Lewis is on track to graduate early and would enroll at WVU next January to take part in spring practice. Running backs coach Chad Scott, who handles south New Jersey, was Lewis’ primary recruiter. Defensive line coach Jordan Lesley was also involved in the recruitment.

According to Rivals.com analyst Keenan Cummings, “Lewis is an ideal fit for what West Virginia wants up front. He has the size and athleticism to bounce between a three technique to a five and is explosive enough that he can even be used as a stand-up edge rusher on third downs.”
Lewis is the fourth Class of 2020 recruit to make a verbal commitment to the Mountaineers. He joins quarterback Garrett Greene (Tallahassee, Fla.) and wide receivers Reese Smith (Danville, Ky.) and Devell Washington (Bay City, Mich.).
