Re-imagining Mountaineers football uniforms before Saturday’s reveal

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia’s spring football game Saturday promises new coaches, new schemes, a few new signees, and for the first time in six years, new uniforms.

There’s particular secrecy surrounding that last reveal.

“I heard that a couple of guys modeled them, but I really don’t know anything,” said junior tight end Jovani Haskins.

Running back Leddie Brown says teammates have been asking about the new uniforms — “What color are we getting?’ — but he has no clue either.

Senior defensive end Reese Donahue is among a small circle who knows what’s in store, having tried on the new Nike designs, presumably for video of the presentation.

“I’m extremely excited about it,” he said. “The fans should be extremely excited. You guys should look forward to the surprise.

“I get to wear the Flying WV on my chest. It doesn’t matter if it’s a shirt, a jacket, a jersey. I love representing the state. But I tell you what – for me to be fired up over something like this, you guys should be ecstatic. It’s going to be a good deal.”

Haskins holds out hope the Mountaineers will unveil alternates.

“Yeah, I’d like to see an all-gray. I used to put the gray uniforms on West Virginia in the video game,” he said. “And a black one as well — like the Jets got that new black uniform. I like that.”

With only a few days remaining before the spring game, the Dominion Post and WVMetroNews re-imagined a few mockups for the Mountaineers.
