Two arrested for hotel break-in

MORGANTOWN — Two men were arrested after breaking into a hotel storage room, according to police.

Anthony William Dale Gaskill, 20, of Morgantown and Jeremy Scott Williams, 37, are both charged with entering without breaking and conspiracy by the Morgantown Police Department.

About 4:15 a.m. police responded to a burglary at the Scholar Hotel on Chestnut Street where the manager said two white men with backpacks had gone into a locked basement storage room, according to court documents.

The door was locked, but yanking hard enough on it causes the lock to pop open, the manager said. The manager said the two men ran away after they saw the security camera in the room and showed an officer the footage, a criminal complaint stated.

The officer recognized Gaskill and Williams from previous encounters, the complaint said.

On the video, the two rummage around the room, look up, see the camera, turn around and leave, the complaint said. The manager said he wasn’t sure if anything was taken.

Both men were found at the University Avenue Sheetz.

Gaskill said the only thing he took from the hotel was a purple scarf he was wearing.

The two were arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court where bond was set at $50,000 each. As of Friday evening, neither man had posted bond and were being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
