Morgantown Dance hosts 11th Annual Prince & Princess Friends Party

MORGANTOWN — Princesses from all over the land came together Saturday at the 11th Annual Prince & Princess Friends Party at the Mountaineer Mall. Morgantown Dance Studio hosts the party.
Jessica Lee said she believes it all started because the dance company has so many costumes from doing performances.
“It’s just kind of evolved. We have two extra stations this year, we sold out completely. And it’s just a fun activity for kids in Morgantown,” she said.
Among the guest list were Cinderella, Belle, Ariel and Snow White. Attendees could have their pictures taken with princesses and have them sign autograph books.
“The older kids who dance in the studio, they volunteer their time to be the princesses, and we’re just lucky enough to have dancers that look like the characters,” she said.
Lee said the kids who come and spend the day at the event are always super stoked about it. They love dressing up and getting to go around to meet the cast of characters. She said a lot of their younger dancers also attend the party.
Morgantown Dance is a nonprofit that hosts programs that help ease the burden of dance class expenses. This year’s funds are also being used to put new flooring in the dance studio. In past years, some of the money has also gone toward productions.
“Our productions are open to any dancer in the area. They just have to be enrolled in a dance class at a studio, so it’s a performance opportunity at the Metropolitan Theater for local dancers,” she said.
Morgantown Dance has at least 190 students attending classes at its studio. Dancers from ages 2 to adulthood are enrolled.
Lee said the party sold out of tickets this year. She said everybody seemed really happy, and she was thrilled to see the large turnout.
“We usually cap our tickets at 200 because we need to know how much to prepare for the arts and crafts activities. However we sold 250 just to kind of give us a little bit of a backup just in case, but I’m thinking next year we might wanna raise that up a little bit,” she said.
