Your Community Foundation accepting scholarship applications, due March 25

Scholarship applications are being accepted for the 2019-’20 year through Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc.
According to a recent press release, YCF says it oversees 38 diverse scholarship funds primarily to benefit students in north-central West Virginia. Scholarship applications are due March 25, and recipients are announced in May.
Two new scholarships are available for the first time in 2019, the release stated.
The North Elementary Scholarship is for high school graduates who completed fifth grade at North Elementary School and exhibit academic promise and leadership qualities through involvement in school and community activities.
The Bobby Lee Secret Memorial Scholarship is for graduates of a Harrison County high school who demonstrate academic excellence, outstanding moral character, athletic achievement, as well as leadership and community engagement.

“YCF appreciates the opportunity to administer a wide variety of scholarships on behalf of many donors to allow West Virginians to further their education,” said YCF President Patty Showers Ryan.
In 2018, 98 students were awarded scholarships totaling $301,500.
“The scholarship evaluation process is a community effort supported by the dedication of our scholarship committee members,” Ryan said.
In 2018, 104 community members volunteered to review hundreds of applications.
