Police arrest man during burglary of Brockway residence

MORGANTOWN — A man was arrested mid-burglary on Friday morning, according to the Morgantown Police Department.

The department responded to a burglary in progress at 6:46 a.m., according to a press release. Once on scene Charles Allen Michael, 31, of Morgantown, was found burglarizing 641 Brockway Avenue, the complaint said.

The house was being watched by the Mon Metro Drug Task force after searching the house earlier in the day, a criminal complaint states.

Those surveilling the house saw Michael enter the house through a door that was unable to lock, the complaint stated.

Officers told Michael to exit the house, but he refused. He was told a K-9 would be sent in after him and Michael surrendered when the K-9 was summoned to the scene, according to the press release.

Michael was taken into custody without incident, the release stated. He told officers he was in there “pilfering around,” Michael’s criminal complaint stated.

He was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court on Friday by Magistrate Hershel Mullins who sent bond at $10,000.

As of Friday afternoon, Michael had not yet been booked into North Central Regional Jail.
