Indiana Jones to close run of ‘must see’ films at the Metropolitan Theatre

MORGANTOWN — Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Indiana Jones — classic film franchises given a one-night-only revival in Morgantown’s historic Metropolitan Theatre.
Theatre Manager Joe Kaehler said the theatre filled some open evenings this holiday season with “movies you have to see, or see again, on the big screen.”
This initial test run ends Saturday evening, when the theatre screens the Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford classic, Raiders of the Lost Ark, at 7 p.m.
“This has been kind of a test thing. The city manager and I talked about it and said, ‘you know what, let’s see what people think,’” Kaehler said. “Now, it’s been a tough week to run movies anyway, but we thought we’d give it a shot because it’s a dead week for the Met.”
Given the hustle and bustle of the holidays, Kaehler said crowds have been light, but appreciative.
“I haven’t had a whole lot of people in here, but everybody who has been here has loved the experience, which is kind of what I was looking for,” Kaehler said. “People like it. They like the idea of a downtown theatre. We’re going to talk more about it next week and maybe make this an ongoing thing.”
Admission to the films is $4.
Kaehler said anyone interested in seeing movies as a regular feature at the Met should contact the theatre or the city, or leave a comment on the theatre’s Facebook page.
Even better, he said, come on down tonight and watch Indy melt Nazi faces in a race to the Ark of the Covenant.
“More than anything, I’d invite you to come down. If you’re out, stop in and take a look. See what you think and give me your review,” Kaehler said.
