Police searching for suspect in Brockway Avenue shooting

MORGANTOWN — Police are seeking a suspect considered armed and dangerous in connection to a Dec. 12 shooting in Morgantown.

Imani “Trump” Cody, 21, of Detroit, is wanted in connection to a mid-afternoon shooting two weeks prior at a home on Brockway Avenue in Morgantown.

Derrick Hamlet, 24, of Morgantown, was treated and hospitalized following the shooting. Police were not called to the scene initially, because it was Hamlet’s friends who drove him to the hospital.

“For the longest time, we didn’t even have a location,” Chief of Police Ed Preston said. “We didn’t know whether the shooting happened inside the city limits or outside the city limits.”
Details on the case are limited, but Preston said Cody has a history.

“He’s been here in north-central West Virginia, had contacts with other law enforcement agencies,” Preston said. “We know that he is volatile. We know that he has a violent past, and that’s why we consider him to be armed and dangerous.
“And the fact that he shot this other individual,” he added.

Hamlet is reportedly in stable condition.

Anyone with information on Cody’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.
